Of all the chase days I had been on already, besides 1 April, this was proving to be the best potential day to this point in time. However, being that I procrastinated getting home at the super early hours of the morning, I thought going into the chase day that I would be worn out to no end. That procrastination did pay off though, as you see in the beginning of the episode. The challenge of the day itself was picking the right target. Both targets were a short drive from my place so it was a case of choosing wisely. I could either go to Tom Green County or go up to an area from Breckenridge to Jacksboro. I finally settled with going to Breckenridge on Hubbard Creek Lake. Yes, that was a lot of words to say, even for me. Say that 3 times really fast and let me know how that works out for you! While sitting there, concerns were popping up but something told me to wait it out. It wouldn’t be too terribly long and I would see tornado warnings going up in the other area of interest and sure enough, Reed Timmer would capture a beauty of a tornado with one of those warnings. About an hour and a half after this, I saw a storm forming in Potosi and thought that might become my storm of the day. While it would turn out to be nothing, it was not long until I started to hear a familiar sound: the sound of large hail hitting a metal roof. I had taken a small mental break from radar but once I heard this sound, I was back and immediately began to record. It wouldn’t be long and my car was getting a beat down from at least 2 inch hail and this lasted for a good near 5 minutes. As this storm was clearing out, it wouldn’t be too much later that the first tornado was reported near Jacksboro. While I am not happy that I missed it, another part of me was grateful. My gratitude was for two reasons. One, my forecast kind of verified and two, it is a safe bet to assume it was a rain wrapped tornado. I don’t mind dancing with severe weather and tornadoes but rain wrapped, well, that’s a big no ghost rider. Finally, it came time to start making my way back home and even though there was some gnarly rain at times, I got out of it. Eventually, with less than an hour to go, I decided to pull off to get a few closing shots for the episode. Recording my last clip would prove to be the money shot with the beautiful bolt of lightning, as seen in the episode. This would come to be my last chase of the week but what was going to be around the corner in a few days was going to be beyond memorable.
